The 5 Best Cities for Black Dating

The 5 Best Cities for Black Dating While it’s possible to meet your perfect match anywhere, a weak location can make the search a lot harder. But black singles who live in the five cities below don’t have that excuse. In addition to being some of the most populous locations in the U.S., the cities offer a variety of cultural, artistic, environmental and sports-related diversions for adventurous daters.

1. Chicago

What they have going for them: Weather. Just kidding. Chicago has one of the largest African-American populations in the U.S. The city is famous for honest, direct folks who are as comfortable courtside at a Bulls game as playing Frisbee in Grant Park. Chicago is also home to the Chicago Defender, the only black daily newspaper in the nation.

2. Washington, D.C.

What they have going for them: Over one-third of DC’s population is African-American, including a high concentration of young professionals, politicos and academics. These decision-makers, while serious and dedicated, know how to cut loose with the best of them in the off-hours.

Sample date: A picnic in Farragut Square followed by a free outdoor movie on the Mall

Lauded natives: Dave Chappelle, Taraji P. Henson

3. Houston

What they have going for them: With a median age of 30, Houston is a very young, very big city. A relatively reasonable cost of living (9% below the national average) makes this diverse Texan metropolis a destination for many post-collegiate black singles. Houston boasts “500 cultural, visual and performing arts organizations, 90 of which are devoted to multicultural and minority arts,” according to the city’s official website.

Sample date: Wandering the Art Car Museum then finishing the evening at one of Houston’s many wine bars

Lauded natives: George Foreman, Debbie Allen

4. Atlanta

What they have going for them: It isn’t called “Hotlanta” for nothing – these Georgia singles are known for their looks and class. And, according to the Brookings Institute, Atlanta has the second largest black population in the U.S. With a wealth of black universities nearby, expect to meet many affluent professionals.

Sample date: Start with tapas at a place like Krog Bar, then show some support for the home team by catching a Braves’ game

Lauded natives: Usher, Tyler Perry

San Diego.jpg

5. San Diego

What they have going for them: Weather. For real, this time. Beautiful sunsets, year-round sports, a world-famous Zoo – what doesn’t San Diego have? And the city is especially perfect for single ladies: black men outnumber black women (partly due to the nearby naval base).

Sample date: Bicycle along the Cardiff coast, then follow it up with some grub from Yogi’s

Lauded natives: Reggie Bush, Meagan Good
